New Normals

Monsoon Essentials

Well, I guess this is the perfect time to write about Monsoon because I’m cozy in the living room this evening while there’s a torrential downpour outside. No surprise at all.

Monsoon comes from the Arabic word “mausim” meaning weather.

Since the weather would shift during the year and usually contain heavy precipitation during a certain season, the word gradually became “monsoon.”

The word Mausim” is still used for “weather” in many languages but “monsoon” is now used to describe rainy season.

I guess technically I have spent a summer in South Asia during monsoon season but I must have blocked it out of my mind cause I feel like this is my first time to ever soak ๐Ÿ˜‰ up rainy season.

Here’s what its like:

A—You roll over and think it’s a beautiful sunny day until 15 minutes later, the clouds roll in and you hear thunder. Then it pours.

B—You go through half your day and decide to go out and meet a friend. Thinking that it might not rain but that you know you’ll be wrong. You still go. You meet with your friend and just when you are about to leave, the downpour begins.

C–You wake up and its raining (just a light drizzle). It might go drizzle to downpour but it doesn’t stop all day.

So, all in all, it pretty much rains every day.

On the very rare occasion that it doesn’t rain, everyone is extremely surprised. People don’t usually do anything special when there is an outlier day of sun because all day they assume it is going to rain any minute.

We’ve had ONE sunny day this month.

This is what I like to have with me during rainy season:

Monsoon essentials 1. Rain jacket 2. Rain pants 3. Umbrella 4. Waterproof shoes 5. Rain cover for backpack or bag 6. Waterproof phone case.PNG

If you you have these things, you are pretty much good to go. Even on a motorcycle, scooty, scooter, walk in the rain, or waiting for a bus, you should be happy as a clam.

I was never so prepared for a rainy day, which was almost everyday! You remind me of your dad who has everything he might need on his bike rides!!!๐Ÿ˜Š
