Grace:  the free and undeserved favor of God

Peaks: the pointed top of a mountain

Two beautiful aspects of life…(#1)God’s grace and (#2) the many peaks that tower above us on certain areas of this planet, reminding us of the beauty of creation.

#1.   Grace…

  • That which could never be earned
  • A free and undeserved favor of God towards sinners
  • A radical exchange of our sin for God’s act of judgment on his son
  • God’s mercy
  • Changed my life forever

#2.   Peaks…

My heart has been in love with the mountains since I was a little girl when I first visited my grandparents in the Tetons. My cousins, sisters, and I would play for hours in a treehouse that gramps built among the pine trees. Bears would wander through the front yard and one time Grandma even shoed off  a bear with a broom since it was eating bird seed in the front lawn.

Not only do mountains bring back fond memories but they cause me to be awestruck at there majestic height, strength, and grandeur. Mountains remind us that we are small compared to this earth,  all that is in it, and its Maker. The peak in the picture is when my husband & I trekked in Nepal and first met (in person…that is). He was the only one who was smart enough to bring sunglasses and was kind enough to pass them around to the rest of us when we started getting snow blindness. I learned my lesson…always wear sunglasses when hiking at 15,000 feet on snow-covered peaks. When we reached the top we felt such a sense of accomplishment and wonder as we looked out upon peaks as far as the eye could see. Mountains remind us of the struggle and strain of reaching a destination and the joy of resting in the beauty of it all when you’ve reached that which you’ve set out to do.

Grace has changed my life and peaks are dear to my heart, which brings us to this corner of the web called Grace + Peaks. I hope you enjoy it!

I absolutely love your list of the things you missed in America Rachel. And yes it is about food quite a bit but that’s OK. As usual you do a great job of expressing yourself.
