We unexpectedly returned to the States twice in a span of 11 months. Here are a few thoughts about round two and déjà vu.
Our car camping trip with 5 other people, took an athletic turn and quickly evolved into a hiking & camping adventure with a friend of ours. We built a fire in a shepherds shelter and watched herds of sheep roam the hills.
By the end of the week, we knew we needed a few hours in the forest. Our weekend was also packed so we snuck away for a few hours, rode the motorcycle to a nearby hammocking spot, climbed a hill with an auntie and her cows, and put up our hammocks.
A few weeks ago, I sat on the balcony and talked on the phone to a dear friend in another country for well over an hour. We realized that two weeks ago, we were both a total mess. It was a a perfect reminder that sometimes we just need to be still & give ourselves grace.

You may not realize it, but you have a bucket of skills that has been curated around your language, culture, skill set, and everything involved in making your life YOURS. When you move overseas, the bucket gets completely dumped out and must be filled again. This takes persistence, perseverance, and reliance on others. I’m here with some thoughts and tips.
I’ll admit, I was a little nervous for my first prenatal appointment in South Asia. I know things can be pretty unorganized, feel hectic, and are without a doubt different here. But it was all around a good experience and we are happy to have resources and support as we plan on having our baby in our host country.
