Our 7th and 8th Anniversaries: A Ferris Wheel in the City

Spread the love

We are in a season where we have virtually no income, we live off savings and loans and we just welcomed our third baby. We’ve crossed oceans, lived on another continent in a mountain town and now ended up pursuing something we never dreamed of— flight school. A lot has changed since the first time we spent an anniversary overseas with Goats, Caves, & Monsoon Rains.

We have three beautiful children, two of which have something rare going on (Apraxia / Left Pulmonary Hypoplasia) which makes our kids even more unique and amazing. They are fighters. They are inspiring. They are all a little hard headed in their own way. Our days are often filled with heart conversations and discipline- only to do it again 5 minutes later. Quality time together mostly consists of putting the kids down, picking up the house and cleaning the kitchen before we collapse into bed. I guess we have arrived at raw real parenthood. Life has only become more rich with memories, deep with faith, and full with the sweet children that God has blessed us with. Robby is the only one I would ever want to go on life’s adventures with. Whether we live in a trailer park, a village or a duplex— we are better together. I love following him wherever this life takes us and pray I support him in every way possible.

Including our 8th anniversary, we’ve spent 4 anniversaries overseas and 4 in the States.

Our 7th Anniversary

We went to on the KC Wheel for the first time and enjoyed beautiful views overlooking the city. We had French food at Aixois and Coldstone creamery for dessert.

Our 8th Anniversary

Our anniversary was on a Tuesday and we didn’t start off the week on a healthy note. I had a relatively short but terrible stomach sickness two days before (which continued the night of our anniversary). Micah threw up a little bit in the morning and Zoe had a slight temperature the night before. Little did we know, the next day we would end up taking Micah to the emergency room because of the stomach virus too. Thankfully all he needed was Zofran and didn’t have to get an IV. After that and a little blue Gatorade, he was basically fine.

Robby had a flight in the morning and I dropped off the boys at a park so I could go grocery shopping with Zoe who was almost 2 months old. I usually grocery shop with all the kids so it was a huge time saver and blessing that my mom volunteered to take the boys to the park for play and snacks. I had a pounding headache through the night and was still feeling weak from being sick the day before. After shopping, we met back up, took care of a poopy underwear incident and I dropped the boys off at my parents’ –with nothing ready to spend the night. I was planning on going back home to get their things but we didn’t have time. We figured they had enough at my parents’ house to make it work.

Robby got back from his flight and met me at home. We ate and I napped when Zoe was napping.

Around 4 pm, we loaded Zoe up and went to the KC Wheel to play mini golf (not ride the ferris wheel) until it started to rain. We realized we have never been mini golfing before together and it was so much fun!

Then, we drove to Slaps BBQ, a place we had never been before. I nursed Zoe before going in. We ordered and I laid her on the table thinking she would be happy because she loves to stretch out. I was very wrong. She started fussing again and cried until I latched her. I ate with one hand and leaned over the table but the food was amazing!

Next, we drove to an overlook and walking trail along a point where the Kansas River flows into the Missouri River. It was beautiful and you could see the Kansas City skyline. We got out for 3 minutes and walked down the sidewalk before it started to rain.

Zoe fell asleep on the way back. We finished our evening out with Andy’s drive through and ordered one medium chocolate peanut butter concrete with cookie dough. Delicious!
