Our 5th & 6th Anniversary

Spread the love

In the spirit of better late than never, I have been reflecting on where God has brought us and his grace in our lives over our 6 years of marriage. I wouldn’t say we had definitive expectations but we have been thrown many curveballs since we began this journey together.

It is both a privilege and a price that we get to travel for our work. Sometimes travel prevents us from getting into good rhythms or feeling settled and in the groove. But at the same time, travel has broadened our view of the World, our Maker, and God’s heart for all people–people in remote villages who cook over a fire with dung patties or people who live in big bustling cities.

I wouldn’t want to be stuck in the happy and hard with anyone else but my husband!

A few tidbits:

  • People in South Asia think it’s funny that we were basically married in a field. That would never happen here. Fields are strictly used for growing and harvesting crops.
  • We get asked if we had a love marriage or arranged (since this is a common question among South Asians) and we can honestly say both. Some mutual friends set us up and it went well! Read more here.
  • We’ve spent 2 anniversaries in the States & 4 in South Asia

Here are some of the highlights of each year of marriage so far:

  • 1st anniversary- In the States (in transition during a move)
  • 2nd anniversary- camping trip in South Asia
  • 3rd anniversary- camping trip in South Asia
  • 4th anniversary- Missouri (waiting for our firstborn)
  • 5th anniversary- dinner outing in South Asia (11 month old)
  • 6th anniversary- hammocking outing in South Asia (22 month old and 3 month old)

5th Anniversary Mountain Views

We had a delicious breakfast at our favorite brunch spot in our city that serves an amazing Turkish egg breakfast. My husband also booked a massage for me in the area. It was wonderful and crazy cheep- around $12 for an hour.

Dinner down the mountain was sub-par but the views after a rain shower were perfectly clear and gorgeous. We ate at a local resort and walked around the beautiful garden afterwards.

We make homemade cards each year since we can’t find cards up our ally at the store. 😉

6th Anniversary

We went jungle hammocking with our 3-month-old (as of that day).

Monkeys were just chillin’ in the trees above our hammocks and I was kind of freaking out inside. They can be crazy and viscous so we kept careful watch and didn’t take any food out.

Afterward, we stopped at a local bakery where nothing was stocked due to a 9-hour power cut the day before. We were, however, able to order sushi for dinner

Since our anniversary fell on his 3 month birthday, we had to snap some adorable photos of Micah
