We drove 3 hours and 50 min to Eureka Springs, Arkansas for a little getaway before baby comes our way.
Why this location? It seemed quaint, outdoorsy, and not too far away. We stayed at Kettle Camp Grounds, which was only 3 miles from the little downtown area.
1 night of camping
2 nights in a cabin
Day 1 : c a m p i n g
Car camping was much easier than the backpacking we are used to. We could bring the cooler, picnic basket, and all the cooking utensils we wanted! We love the three person Big Agnes Tent Copper Spur we bought last year before we were even expecting to be a family of three so soon. Luci String lights are our favorite too.
Made Cajun sausage & veggies for dinner. Here was the original recipe but I omitted several ingredients.
Had to watch out for ticks and use bug spray.
French toast sticks and blueberries with Starbucks iced coffee packets for breakfast felt like luxury. We slept great and I only had to get up once to pee. Hooray!
At noon, we packed up camp and moved fifty feet down to a little cabin in the woods–and I mean little but it was really cute! Complete with mini fridge, coffee bar, TV, bathroom with shower, bed, and couch.
Day 2: c a b i n + d a y o f h i k i n g
Then we hiked at Bass Lake Trail where we learned why “springs” is in the name Eureka Springs. The natural springs in the area where considered to be healing. People would drink the water and come from all over to see the various springs.
We crossed a shallow stream to this mossy rocky area to eat a picnic lunch. I managed to lose my balence with 20+ pounds of extra weight and my 34 week belly. My left foot slipped into the stream and soaked my boot. My husband came to the rescue with a quick-dry towel and made sure my boot and sock were at least as dry as they could be.
We did anther hike that was supposed to be to an overlook, which we never found but it ended up being a peaceful and beautiful 3 mile hike in the woods.
3.04 miles
slow pace…total time: 1 hour 34 min
elevation gain: 440 feet
Then we drove downtown and enjoyed dinner at Take 5 Bistro. Their seafood Alfredo was amazing and hit the spot after 8.7 total miles of walking for the day. Let’s just say I was utterly pooped out & zapped of energy!
Day 3: c a b i n + c a v e
Cozy Sunday morning with blueberry banana pancakes on the front porch as we watched the rain and listened to the Dwell app read the story of Moses.
Walked around The Great Passion Play area and Christ of the Ozarks statue created in 1966. 340 tons of concrete. 7 stories tall.
Explored Onyx Cave and marveled at the beauty hidden underground and the creativity of God.
Eleven days before our 4th anniversary.
Fourteen days before my husband’s first Father’s day as a daddy.
So glad we could get away for a little adventure before our next adventure of the arrival of baby boy.
